Penetration –when the projectile enters in any region of its target. Several ways of penetration are possible and they are listed below.
Perforation – when the projectile passes through the target Embedment – when the target stops the projectile completely during impact Ricochet – when the projectile rebounds from the target without stopping Ballistic limit velocity – the average of, the highest striking velocity that gives partial penetration and the lowest striking velocity, which results in perforation. This velocity can be used for classification of materials. Ballistic limit curve – the residual velocity of the projectile as a function of its initial velocity Ballistic limit line – same as the ballistic limit curve for a target with no thickness. |
